Ramino Bricks

History:

The brick farm is a direct result of the building and repairs that were done to the guest house that is now known as “Ramino Guest Farm”

When the building was nearing completion, the builder asked if we cannot start making bricks, as they were now out of work.  After a lot of research we decided to stick with the old, traditional way of making bricks, making bricks by hand, and thereby creating work opportunities for people on the farm. Pokes were made, donkeys were bought and the track was levelled. The casts were prepared and Ramino Bricks, with the mirror image of a “R” began.

Currently Ramino Bricks supplies work for to 25 people, of which a few young people have no parents and they stay on the farm permanently, because it is now their “home”.

The bricks are manufactured by making use of carbondust that comes from the carbon mines and also the burning material that the ovens burn with. This ensures high quality bricks that are regularly tested by a laboratory.

Ramino Bricks is currently the main supplier to the Government Housing Scheme project of which a big portion is already built.

Government Housing Scheme Hanover

Ramino is part of the government housing project in Hanover.

Capacities can vary, but as much as 12000 bricks ( 198 000 per month) were made.

One brick weighs +- 2.7-2.8kg.

To make 900 bricks a day,you need 25 tons of soil,3 tons of ash and 8000 litre’s of water.

3 Donkeys= 15 people.

This means each person handled 4 tons each day!

We are extremely proud of all the people that took part in this project with joy and enthusiasm! Each worker got paid per brick that they made!

Well done!
